Frequently Asked Question’s

How does parent coaching work?

1

Your initial appointment, we meet to discuss areas of you want to focus on for your child or family. Such as teaching your child how to do something or reducing a challenging behavior. Additionally finding an approach that works in you and your family’s daily life.

After your initial appointment and receiving your plan, parents are welcome to schedule a follow-up or check-in session for a quick and helpful one time support.

Looking for additional support - a coaching package option provides multiple plans, restricting what may or may not be working in the initial plan, weekly check-in options, and bi-weekly coaching appointments.

How to know if parent coaching is right for me?

2

If you a looking for an approach that doesn’t require a formal diagnosis, frustrating insurance hoops, and freedom to say what’s working and what isn’t working that works in your everyday life? - Parent coaching is a good place to start!

My style of parent coaching is to not to tell you how to be a parent. Rather I provide ways to make everyday life a little easier and less chaotic for you and your family.

What type of behaviors do you provide support for?

3

Tantrums, aggression towards others, inappropriate or disrespectful language, property damage, difficulty sleeping, completing chores - and much more!

My goal is to help parents better understand what may be contributing to their child’s behaviors and develop practical, compassionate strategies that support meaningful change and help everyone feel more confident and connected.

What everday skills do you help parents teach to their child?

4

Communication, listening to and following directions, coping and self-regulation, toilet training, increasing independence (brushing teeth, hair, bathing, and chores), morning and bedtime routines, social and emotional skills, appropriate behaviors and boundaries with strangers, acquaintances, and familiar people, support in the community (grocery shopping) - and much more!

How long should I except before seeing change?

5

This looks different for everyone - the more opportunities someone has to practice what they are learning, the more comfortable and confident they become. Each individual learns best when new skills are practiced consistently, incorporated into everyday routines, and gradually used more independently.

Meaningful change can take days, weeks, or even months. With consistent practice and effective, individualized behavior techniques, positive change is possible. Changing a behavior can depend on many factors: a person’s age, how long the behavior has been occurring, and what may be contributing to it.

Progress may look different for everyone, but every step forward is meaningful.

Do you work with children and teens with different abilities?

6

Yes, I’ve supported many families and children as young as 2-years-old up into their mid-20’s with many different abilities.
